POTTY TRAINING WIN!

Carter is finally potty trained! He is out of pull-ups and into his “big boy” underwear! Carter, and his mom Breanna, were clients in our Healthy Families program. Although they have now graduated, Breanna called to share the good news with her home visitor.

Read what Nicole said below:

"I asked how the process went (because she tried about six months before she graduated and it didn’t go terribly well). She told me that she started talking about potty training with Carter and bought a pack of big boy underwear."

"She let him put on a pair to feel the difference between a pull                                                                  up and something that wasn’t bulky. When he had a wet pull up,                                                                 she tried to connect the wet pull up as the effect of having to go potty                                                  but not going to sit on his potty. It took time and patience, but he made the connection and didn’t like being in a wet pull up. He told her he wanted to be a big boy in his big boy underwear."

"Every time he felt the urge to potty, he would tell her and she’d help him. Afterwards, she gave him verbal praise and other times it would be verbal praise and a small prize from the Dollar Store.  Of course there were accidents and she told him that was okay. Once he started getting into a solid routine, she and Andrew too him to pick out the BIG PRIZE for when he had the potty down to a science. She sent me these pictures of Carter when he finally earned his BIG PRIZES for using the potty 99.9% of the time. She went on to say that he told her the day before yesterday that he wasn’t sure he liked Mickey Mouse and she asked him why. He told her Mickey Mouse was for babies but he is a Big Boy and he loves the Avengers because they are big boy super heroes!"

We are super proud of Carter and Breanna both! What an exciting accomplishment!

At The Parenting Place, we build great childhoods and strong families every day.
